I'm finding it increasingly difficult to enjoy the England International games.
I'm not sure if its the media dribble that inevitably appears the 2 weeks rolling up to an England game or just the over hyped players that are on show.
First case all the blabbering about John Terry and the captaincy of England... Let me ask you the reader quickly, Who is Spains captain? Who is Brazils captain? Germany?
You probably got there eventually but it takes a moment to think. So it raises the question does it really matter who has the armband?
What is the constant obession with England and the captyaincy?
It has to have some negative impact on the dressing room to be talking about this irrelevancy so frequently.
I mean these players are all professionals and there are many leaders on the team. Its not like the captain is deciding tactics or strategy.
Then there are the players... Ah the players. In my eye England overachieve. We are always expected to win the world cup/euro's but why?
We have only progressed to the last 4 of any major tournament 3 times in history so why would things change so dramatically and break habits of a lifetime?
The constant weight put on Rooney's shoulders.
The ancient old question of "How can we accommodate Gerrard and Lampard? "Jack Wilshire is a world beater" then if he has a poor game the media will crucify him, as they have done Rooney before.
The International break only means a few things to me now. The players that represent my club are at a high risk of injury.
It breaks the season up, thus my usual viewing of football is reduced and the usual disrespect (this time of Wales) is aired for all to hear by pundits and the media over.
Why do England have the "right" to beat Wales? They don't and I'm almost certain they won't win tomorrow. Wales will be up for it and again the media burden and weight of expectation will show on the England players faces again.
Its to the point I'm sure where the majority of the England players stand in the tunnel not thinking of the pride of playing for their country, but what will be written in the paper about them the next day.
Can I fast forward the next 2 weeks of football please?
